I read the same article, had similar if not-nearly-as-eloquently-expressed feelings about it as Josh below, and am now glad to see that he has put keys to electrons and made a very cogent argument as to why “Fuck this guy.” is the correct response.

(PRE-PREFACE: click the title of this post to read the article that begat the word-vomit you’re about to read)

(PREFACE: this is not a love note to @marcmaron as much as it is a relatively new comedian’s feeble attempt at calling out a dude for attempting to ~~B SUPER COOL~~ instead of doing his fucking job)

This is by far the worst article i’ve ever read on what is, otherwise, a fine website about sports— and more importantly (to the writers) why Boston is a better city than any other. This article’s writer’s minute by minute breakdown could not be more incorrect, even if he’d never listened to an episode. It, to me, sounds like he heard a decent comedian bitch about “the first 20 minutes” of WTF and just transcribed it without knowing why. Beyond the fundamental bullshit behind the writer’s wholly incompetent understanding of the podcast lays a truly terrifying reality for anyone who has tried (to any degree of success) to perform standup: HE (the hack writer of this swing-and-a-miss) is OUR MOST-WANTED AUDIENCE. He is an ostensibly intelligent individual who recreationally enjoys comedy. HE IS WHO WE ARE TRYING TO GET TO FILL SEATS IN OUR SHOWS. And yet, instead of using his platform as a gentleman who can shine light on some notable, worthwhile comedy slash conversation, he’s too obsessed with his own coolness to ever even acknowledge what is worth listening to in this podcast. FIRST and foremost as a “journalist” (those quotes hang SO HEAVY on that term) he should display A MODICUM of objectivity when describing this podcast (NOT EVERYONE IS AS COOL AS YOU JAY CASPIAN KANG AND YOU SHOULD BE WRITING TO INFORM THEM OF WHAT THIS COOL THING THEY MOST LIKELY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF *IS* BEFORE YOU PANDER TO THE COOLEST PERCENTAGE OF YOUR AUDIENCE AND ASSUME EVERYONE HAS HEARD OF IT) and beyond that, you should do what you’re meant to do when you hear a podcast: listen. Just fucking hear these dudes out. At the end of the day, if you’re not LISTENING to a podcast for the purpose of HEARING IT, why else would you waste your time? Take what you can from it and grow. THAT is the point of this podcast. To listen to two distinctly, fully-formed individuals hammer out their origin stories and LET you know (not require payment or any other way of EARNING it) how their upbringing informed their decisions.

In summation: If the writer of this article had any self-respect, he would’ve written about what he learned by listening to fucking adults being vulnerable as opposed to how much cooler he is than the process of letting those adults be vulnerable. Fuck this guy.

I grew up in Washington D.C., and when I was about 17, I went to a place I remember being called “This Is It?” at 14th and H St. or so. This was Washington’s red light district and this particular place was noted for the occasional sighting of Mayor Marion Barry. It was an…
